How it works

What is Feminist Book Club?

Fair Agenda’s Feminist Book Club is an opportunity to strengthen our muscles in the fight for feminist futures, while connecting with others in our communities and taking tangible action in the fight for a fair and gender equitable future

Just like a traditional book club, each group will all be reading the same text beforehand - from a list of content curated by the Fair Agenda team, that is particularly relevant to this moment in time.

Unlike a traditional book club, groups won’t be reading a whole book - instead, hosts will have a choice of two to three excerpts / articles / content pieces, each taking less than three hours maximum to read.

During book club you’ll reflect on the content, share your thoughts on what you can take away from it; and hear about an opportunity to take tangible action in the fight for a gender equitable future.

What will we be reading?

Every month, Fair Agenda will compile three texts - these could be book chapters, sections of a PDF, or even a podcast - for hosts to choose from for their book club to jointly read.

The recommended texts will provide feminist perspectives relevant to this moment in time and to current struggles (with a brief on why this book in this moment provided in each cycle).

Each book club you’ll discuss the text, and what you’re taking away from it - to inform your thinking and activism moving forward.

What’s involved in hosting?

As a host you’ll be responsible for bringing your group members together, and selecting the book (or other content) you’ll read and discuss.

You can choose between two group options:

  1. Private book club - where you invite people from your existing community together, or

  2. Public book club - where you provide the option for other Fair Agenda members in your community to join your group.

After signing up and establishing what form of book club you want to host, the Fair Agenda team will provide you with support to create a group, and invite people to join - then to register and track RSVPs for your book club meetings every six weeks (or whatever cycle you choose).

We’ll provide a template run sheet you can use to plan your book club (click here to view)

Our team will be on hand to provide support when you need it; and we’ll get in touch every so often to check how it’s all going.
